Bible: Beat your Kids
Sami Zaatari
Christians love talking about how the Quran commands Muslims to beat their wives, an argument that has been completely shattered so many times I've lost count, nonetheless it baffles me as to why Christians have a problem with such a supposed teaching, after all their Bible allows them to torture slaves:
If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property. (Exodus 20:20-21)
You can beat your slave with a rod and it's all good if the slave can get up AFTER A DAY OR TWO! The beating is so bad the slave needs a day or two to recover, amazing!
You will never hear Christians complaining about this verse, and the pathetic response of oh this is the OT doesn't apply, because this law still existed in a period of time, do Christians believe it was okay to torture slaves 2000 years ago but not now??
Furthermore Jesus never abrogated slavery, nor did he abrogate such strict teachings, he called on slaves to obey masters, even if they are harsh and mean etc.
However so with all of that said this article isn't about the above issue! One may think wow does it actually get worst! Yes, it does I'm afraid, because the Bible even teaches its followers to beat their children:
He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him. (Proverbs 13:24)
So if you spare your son from the rod, the same rod that is used to hit slaves, then you hate your son! Hence it is an act of love to beat your child with the rod, and to carefully discipline him! We read more:
Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.(Proverbs 19:18)
So the Bible even teaches you not to spare your child, even if he/she cries! Christians may get desperate and say oh well chasten just means rebuke, through the mouth, doesn't have to mean beat! Yes, this response could work, however so the verse comes from Proverbs, the same book that calls on parents to not spare their child from the rod in Proverbs 13:24, hence chasten could also mean a physical beating too, not just by the mouth.
Furthermore, let us assume the above verse is also talking about chastening the child through the tongue; does that make it any better? The child is crying, this is a mental beating, and physiological torture, which is even worst than a physical beating.
Here are some more child beating verses:
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. Proverbs 22:15
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. Proverbs 29:15
Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. Proverbs 23:13-14
There you have it folks, the Bible clearly teaches its followers to beat their children with the rod, and to not do so is to HATE the child, and that the parent should have no mercy even if the child cries, after all you are saving the child from hell!!! (wow this sounds like some horror cult movie!)
And Allah Knows Best!
